No One Cares
On the grand scale of life, no one cares about you. Or me.
Pretty pessimistic point to start off on but it is something I have been putting a lot of thought into. I feel on some level I accept it with a calmness, the other part of me hurts over it.
You might assume about me that I’ve been abused, traumatized or had several broken relationships with a significant other and none of those could be further from the truth. I have never been abused, I have only been with one spouse and it’s my husband, and my parents are the bomb. Rather, it’s been mostly female friends who have shown me this. No one cares.
I lost a friend at 8 years old because I used the word “butt” and “crap” and I was told I was “bad” for that. No one cares.
I stopped trying to make friends through high school when I kept getting stood up. People would no show, no call. No one cares.
A missed opportunity of a friendship with a woman from church because she woke up feeling “sick” which was really a hang over and her realizing she nearly forgot her and her boyfriend’s anniversary. No one cares.
People commend you on a career that is virtuous, life changing and heroic, but they don’t want to hear you talk about it. No one cares.
An acquaintance offers to pray for you but doesn’t want to hear why you need prayer. No one cares.
A passing comment made about having a heart surgery gets everyone’s ears perked up for tasty tidbits of drama, but they do not want to know how hard recovery from it was. No one cares.
Promised meals were never sent to help support you when you were unable to grocery shop due to surgery recovery. No one cares.
You will not be remembered for the hard work you put into a person’s personal life through your career. To them, you are a hoop to jump through to get to the next best thing. No one cares.
It’s ok that no one cares. I have a small four or five people in life that do care. It sometimes doesn’t feel like enough to sustain a person’s feeling of being needed and wanted but it will have to do. It’s far greater than some other people, who have no one that cares.
